The laziness has taken over us. We have now used 9 days at Gili Air just relaxing by the beach, snorkeling, cycling around looking at the beautiful island and eating.
We had a short trip to Gili Air on our backpacking tour two years ago and was excited to see if the island had changed. We used Scoot fast boat company to take us over from Nusa Lembongan which took about 2,5 hours in pretty heavy waves.
After finally arriving at the island we could immediately see that the island had changed a lot during this short amount of time. They had made pavements at some areas of the island and it was a lot of new restaurants and hotels. We did almost not recognize the island that we had fell in love in two years ago.
Gili air was before the 1980s an island where only fisherman went, but in the 1980s, the backpackers started coming. The island has after this exploded with tourists.
We stayed 5 nights at the really nice hotel called Bel Air. The first day we used to stroll around the island, walking in the small roads in the “no- tourist”- areas and used one hour to walk on the beach around the whole island.
The rest of the days on Bel Air we used to snorkel, watching the sunset and eating.
After 5 nights we moved further north on the island to Camilla Bungalow and Villas for our 4 last nights at Gili Air. We did not expand our fantasy that much and ended up with spending the rest of the days also for snorkeling, looking at the sunset and eating. But it has been nice to just relax and have no plans after 14 days of sightseeing.
Tomorrow we are leaving for the island next to Gili Air, Gili Meno. Before the boat will drop us of at Gili Meno, they will take us on a snorkling trip. So we are excited about that.
